Propane Refill in NJ

If you’ve ever installed a propane tank at your residential or commercial building, you’d understand that it can be a daunting and cost-consuming endeavor. However, despite the fact that it’s a pretty huge investment, there’s no doubt that propane is worth it.

When you’re handling a propane installation, you want to ensure that you have the right facilities to maintain it. This way, you know you’re caring for it and protecting its use in the long term.

So, how do you ensure that your propane tank is kept in the best shape possible?

Refilling should be constant

One of the most important parts of keeping a propane tank is ensuring that it ever runs dry. When checking for propane levels, always keep in mind that companies offering propane refills will only fill your tank to 80% of its capacity. This is a safety precaution that allows them to easily factor changes in volume that are caused by temperature changes.

Propane levels tend to fluctuate based on the season. So, be sure to watch any changes in levels, so you know the right time to get a propane refill in NJ.

If you’re the busy type, however, then you might want to just set up an automatic delivery. This way, you never have to worry about monitoring your propane levels on your own.

Be mindful of temperatures

This is another important key factor that you should always keep in mind. Propane tends to expand whenever it gets heated. So, you’ll probably see lower readings on your tank as temperatures decrease.

If the temperature drops below 60°C, then you should be really vigilant. Most delivery companies that come to fill your tank will use volume correction devices to ensure that it is properly topped off as well.

Look out for leaks

It is also a good idea to conduct regular tank inspections. You should especially check for propane leaks, which cause wastage and could also be a health hazard.

You could simply pour some warm, soapy water on your tanks and the gas lines. If you have a leak, the water will bubble to the top. Once you notice this, get in touch with a professional company immediately.

Ensure ground stability

If you’ll be installing an above-ground tank, then you want to ensure that the ground beneath it is as level and stable as possible. This way, you avoid instances where the tank suddenly falls over.

In the installation process, always look to ensure that the platform on which yoru tank stands is in top condition and isn’t showing any visible signs of deterioration. If you’re putting the tank on a wood platform, then ensure that it’s in good shape and not in danger of rotting.

Propane Refill in NJ

Propane is a mainstay in most homes and their heating system. A clean, energy-rich gas, propane offers several advantages for modern homes. It is friendly to the environment, highly reliable, and can even save you a lot of money in the long run.

However, the level of efficiency you get from your propane heating system will also depend on your ability to conduct preventive maintenance and keep it operating. Besides the frequent propane refill in NJ that you will need to have, you can also keep the following common propane heating issues in mind as you us the system:

Ignition problems

One of the most common issues for propane heating systems is a lack  of ignition. Here, you find that the motor runs normally, but the heating unit just doesn’t come on.

This problem usually comes from a disconnection of the igniter wire. However, it could also signal that you need to replace the igniter itself. Propane supply could also be insufficient. Whatever it is, we recommend getting the professionals to take a look at it.

Pilot problems

Most propane heating systems work with a standing pilot. This is essentially a small flame that burns constantly within the appliance and which ignites the propane fuel at the burner. You will usually be able to see the pilot, and it is important when you need to ignite the main burner.

A healthy pilot measures about an inch and looks blue. If you find that the flame is shorter or exhibiting a pale yellow color, then you need to clean its tube. If you can’t keep the pilot lit for long, then you might need to service the entire system.

Again, don’t try to relight the pilot on your own. This is a job for the professionals.

Thermocouple malfunctions

The thermocouple is a measuring device that works in the same way your thermostat works in your home. When it works well, it adds a much-needed safety component to the entire heating system, preventing the use of any unburned propane.

The flame from the pilot heats up the thermocouple and immediately sends a signal to the system's valve to remain open so that the pilot maintains its light. Bu, if the thermocouple strays too far from the pilot or isn’t working as it should, then you will find that the pilot could be extinguished. If this happens consistently, then you could need an adjustment or a full replacement for the thermocouple.

The damper solution

Most propane heating systems come with dapper controls that help to regulate their level of air intake. If your fireplace isn’t getting enough flame or heat, then adjusting the damper can help you to regulate the air intake.

However, if you find that the damper solution doesn’t work, then calling the professionals is your best bet. Propane systems can be very finicky, so don’t try handling any issues on your own.
